Bedroom interior design with classic white and neutral tones

January 9, 2014

There is something peaceful about white and soft colours being used in bedrooms. I love it when I see a freshly painted white, soft duck egg or french grey colour palette being used in a bedroom. They are not only peaceful colours but clean, classic and relaxing.  Fresh white or natural bed-linen with white or grey washed floor boards looks stunning working with either classic linen drapes puddled on the floor or plantation shutters to finish the room.

If you want to create a bedroom that feels like you’re staying in a resort while living in Geelong; start with a colour palette that is peaceful then add warmth and texture to your bedroom space. If it’s pure white or a soft palette you can work with the earthy tones, light or coloured wood, layer the bed with a textured throw and cushions and add a headboard in a fabric you absolutely love which will bring the room together. Make sure you balance the accessories to finish the look. Too may accessories will make the room feel cluttered and confusing and not enough accessories will make the bedroom feel empty. Getting the balance right is the key.

White is clean, classic, and contemporary it doesn’t need to be cold. If you want to inject energy to the space lighting can do this especially with the lamps available on the market at the moment. Don’t buy bed side lamps that are too big for the bed side tables as this can change the look completely and will make the room unbalanced. Make sure the bed side lamps work with the style you are creating. If you choose feature lighting for the ceiling look at a light that reflects well on the walls, creates ambiance like there are candles burning. Make sure the feature light is not too bright and dominating.

Add flowers to your room my favourite flower s are white Xmas Lillies as the scent is just magnificent, they always make me smile when I walk into the room. Final touches may be your favourite interior book, interior design magazines, gardening books, or fictional books you may be reading which could sit on a shelf in your bedside table. You will then have a bedroom that is a calm space from the outside world and can be a place that you can come to when you need time out. I always believe in having the things around you that make you smile and remember to not over crowd the space with everything you own.

You can hire an interior design professional to assist in this design process if it’s over whelming.
Enjoy the process.
