THE IMPACT OF INTERIOR DESIGN ON HEALTH & WELLBEING

April 9, 2019

In today’s climate health and wellness is playing such a huge roll in our everyday lives.  With the increasing demand on social media, excessive travel, longer working hours, we are more commonly seeing the need for health and wellness.  The rapid pace at which the wellness industry continues to evolve.  We are noticing everyone is becoming more aware of what foods they eat, for example good gut health based foods to botanical skincare products that provide solutions, health and wellness spas are popping up in gyms, hotels, business hubs etc.  As we know the wellness industry is all about the holistic experience factoring in not just relaxation but improving the mental state, restoring clarity and eliminating anxiety.  We really focus on creating the holistic experience for our clients when we work with them on their home or business and making sure the spaces connect with everyone.  It’s important that the workplace isn’t forgotten about and is becoming more than a place where employees work all day, but a place where employees can improve their state of mind and focus which will lift their spirits and improve productivity.  A well designed workplace can energize its occupants and clients while increasing the revenue within in the business.

Mix these two with the introduction of good interior design into a health and wellness work type environment and the consideration of the effect of colours, lighting, furniture layout, patterns and space on an individual’s mood, we can directly influence the behaviour and frame of mind of employees and clients as soon as they enter the building. This in turn can assist in increasing revenue and business growth, not only by increasing clients but by ensuring a fully tenanted workplace with happy, positive employees.

The Medical Health Group, recently enlisted our team of commercial interior designers to assist with the renovation of their headquarters in Geelong, offering one-stop-shop health and wellness solution for the entire family.  Their brief to us was keeping the character of the building while providing an inviting elegant aspirational space that their future tenants could operate their business from and would welcome their clients.  We worked seamlessly with their builder Tony from La Greca Homes designing and specifying all the interior finishes from wallpaper, paint colours, hard flooring, lighting, cabinetry, banquette seating, window furnishings etc. We designed a custom built reception desk to work in with our holistic design scheme and set the mood with the feature pendants in the waiting room.  Everyday clients walk in the door and feel uplifted in the space.  We love creating holistic spaces that connect with everyone who shares the space.

Now fully tenanted, the practice provides a holistic approach to the wellbeing of others, boasting one of the largest and most diverse offerings of allied health services in Geelong, the Bellarine and Surfcoast region.   The businesses occupy the building in a variety of health disciplines, ranging from myotherapy & sports massage, remedial massage, physiotherapy, osteopathy, naturopathy, nutritional medicine, cosmetic medicine, occupational therapy, medibank private care, mole map by dermatologists, neuropsychology, clinical psychology, counselling and hypnotherapy.  We believe that the re-design of their practice, and the calming nature it possesses has directly assisted in contributing to the mental wellbeing of the tenants and their clients when utilising their facilities.  In turn having a positive impact on the success and growth of the business.

As more of these wellness hubs pop up in the form of wellness hotels, relaxation spas, and re-energizing pods be sure to stop to take in your surrounding and consider how the space impacts on your current mood and decisions.
